Parade of Champions 2009 – Auction Preview

June 24, 2009

POC 2009The annual July 4th Parade of Champions (POC) auction is upon us! The event will once again be held at the pristine Hillsborough, Oregon ranch owned by Greg Mecklem; owner of Pacific Crest/Accoyo America.

With average sale prices down within the industry, Mecklem together with co-sponsors Crescent Moon Ranch and Alpaca De La Patagonia will try and make the most of the weekend and offer a number of Champion show winners. As with previous years, Mecklem’s group of primarily all Accoyo-related animals will persevere as the most demanded by bidders. However, some speculate that the decreasing demand for the Accoyo niche market will prove evident after this year’s auction.

Some animals to keep an eye on:

Lot 1- Accoyo Liliana (CMR); Fawn full Accoyo Legacy dtr with 15.7AFD.

Lot 6- Valentino (CMR); Star-studded bay black sire of many Champions.

Lot 7- Accoyo America Cochise (PCA); Primary herdsire of Mecklem’s suri stud row, and 4x Champion.

Lot 10- Accoyo America Calendula (PCA); Full Accoyo Fawn dtr of Centurion, 3x Champion.

Full listings can be found on each farm’s website:

It should also be noted that with the recent passing of PCA Accoyo El Nino this past winter, this might be a good opportunity to pick up one of his offspring. I’m not sure how the pickings will be, but Lot 27 is a nice daughter, who’s dam is also the mother to PCA Accoyo Poseidon.
