Cria Announcement… Golden Gal

July 9, 2009

The impressive, 9x Champion AWI Express’s Golden Girl– one of my all-time show favorites has given birth to her long awaited Sunny Mesa’s Tuscan Gold offspring. The aptly named daughter, ‘Golden Gal’ is the first of Golden Girl’s and among the initial group sired by Tuscan Gold. Her bloodlines backing the maternal side include C Peruvian Accoyo Express, a 4x Champion dam out of Camelot, and on the other wing- Peruvian MFI Brock and a prepotent West coast dam out of Accoyo Starr Khan. Owner, Julie Delaney reported the news Wednesday July 8th saying this:

“Golden Gal looks very promising, as much as a newborn can look.  Very attractive, great luster.  I think she has 19 champions behind her in just her dam and sire, and maternal grandparents.”

I don’t know what to make of Tuscan Gold as a herdsire yet, going on last fall’s production. Their fleeces are seemingly superior with it’s extreme fineness and brightness, but lacking that tight-fleeced character. I am aware of a fawn daughter that sold for $20,000 at the AOBA auction, and a black daughter that sold off the farm at $18,000. A couple blue ribbons and enough consistency for the first grouping of kids to win Tuscan Gold a Get-of-Sire win this past spring. However, I have yet to see that amazing Tuscan fleece shown off in 2007 that had everyone in standstill be recreated. Keep in mind he is the perfect example of a “late-blooming” fleece, and his offspring could easily come back better after getting those cria fleeces shorn off.

Keep an eye on Golden Gal. She is owned by Irish Meadows Alpaca Farm in Iowa.
